Wow! What a delightful six weeks we've enjoyed here in Memphis! It's hard to believe that we've been living in our tiny one bedroom apartment surrounded by all the boxes and furniture and still be sane, but we are. I told Danny on Sunday that I was really glad that we enjoyed being with one another since we are together 24/7 and in tight quarters. I'm glad that after 43 years, that we still can laugh together and be in love.
It has been an honor and privilege to be here with Courtney and Keith during Brantley' birth and to help them adjust to the baby joining Maggie Lynn as part of their family. We've pampered them; cleaned house and shampooed carpets; cooked meals; washed clothes; bathed, read to, rocked and played with Maggie Lynn; and we've kissed all over Brantley. We spend the nights in our apartment, except for the few nights that I stayed overnight to sit up with Brantley. Courtney and Keith were exhausted and needed to get some much needed rest. Brantley has either re-flux and/or colic and doesn't sleep well. It is painful to us to see her uncomfortable!! She does her best sleeping on mommy's chest. Courtney just returned from the pediatrician who prescribed some medicine for Brantley. We are all hopeful that life will get easier for Brantley and for the entire family. As Courtney told the doctor, I must go back to work next week and somethings got to give.
In our "down times" we got our Tennessee license plates and driver's licenses. Danny failed the vision test when getting his CDL driver's license so he got new contacts. He also attended a 8 hour class to get his Tennessee hand gun license. We have enjoyed worshiping with Courtney and Keith at their Bartlett Woods congregation so much. It was really great being invited out with some of their members on a couple of occasions. It was quite a treat to have dinner at Huey's one Saturday night with a couple of friends we knew way back in 1974. Being near our extended family in Mississippi has been a treasure, too.
It really bothers us that we are paying approximately the same amount per month for our tiny apartment as we would if we bought a house, and we are also aware that the interest rates are moving up, up, up. So, we found a house for sale we really like in a great area just inside of Fayette County between Courtney and Keith's house and Memphis. We negotiated a deal with the sellers and were all set to close on October 30th, but we've run into a snag with the home inspection. The beautiful hardwood flooring has some loose boards and quite a few boards are cupping on the edges. We're in a holding pattern until we find out what the seller can do about that. We may have to terminate the deal and put off purchasing a house until a later date. If it is God's will that we buy this house, then it will happen. Right now we are waiting for a call from the seller to see what he says.
Our hopes are to pull out on Thursday morning of this week and go to Abilene for a month. We are past ready to see Jason, Karla, Kaila and Alexa. Kaila began kindergarten last week, and we want to hear all about her new adventures. We hope that we will be able to have lunch with her at school one day and do some fun things just with Alexa while Kaila is at school. Won't that be FUN?
Here are some of my favorite photos of the past six weeks.
